ransgender Student Mental Health Challenges and Their Experiences at University Counseling Centers
Project type
Research Project
Date
April 2024
Location
Raleigh, NC
A marginal number of transgender, gender nonconforming, nonbinary, genderqueer, and gender fluid students attend and matriculate through college within the United States because there are inadequate student health and mental health services available to these students. This research examines transgender and nonbinary mental health challenges and their experiences at university health services in the United States. This research also argues that numerous changes can be made to ensure the voices of transgender individuals are heard, including inclusive healthcare policies, improvements to mental health resources on campus, and specialized counselors being aware of gender-minority issues within the counseling center.
